Homemade wines barred from fundraisers
Press Democrat Article
July 10th, 2013
Dear Home Winemakers Classic Supporters,
This week the Dry Creek-Lokoya Volunteer Fire Department was notified by the Alcohol Beverage Commission (“ABC”) that the agency would not be issuing the permits necessary for the Home Winemakers Classic which was to be held at the Charles Krug Winery on July 20, 2013. The Fire Department had submitted its application for the necessary permits to the ABC in a timely fashion; however, the agency scheduled to process the application after July 1, 2013. We have worked diligently to resolve the matter with the ABC, but the ABC has refused to issue the permit.
The Dry Creek Lokoya Volunteer Fire Department is very sorry for the cancellation of this year’s event. We are hoping to be able to host the Home Winemakers Classic event next year, if we can resolve the issues with ABC. We are aware that other home winemaker events have been cancelled this year, due to similar problems with the ABC.
We will be refunding pre-sale tickets purchased though PayPal or by check. The contact person to inquiry about a refund is Larry Russell (707) 205-9664 or Ken Van Oeveren (707) 225-7644.
On behalf of the Dry Creek-Lokoya Volunteer Fire Department and the Home Winemakers Classic Committee volunteers, we thank you for the 30 years of appreciation for the art of making and sharing home wine.
The wines have been judged and the winners will be announced on Saturday, July 20th on our home page and our Facebook page. In addition a press release will be sent to the media on July 22nd. We will present the ribbons when you pick up your wine. We will still have the raffle ticket drawing on July 20th; winners will be notified when drawn.
If you feel as we do, that this is unnecessarily restrictive Please sign the following petition:
